If You Are White.......Be Very Afraid

Obama's 2009 Health Care Bill is 1,018 pages of nonsense. (You can read it here.) I disagree with universal health care in the first place, but this bill goes above and beyond craziness by giving preferences to minority groups. Especially when it comes to who are future doctors will be! I have no problem whether I'm being treated by a Black, Asian, Indian, or Hispanic doctor, as long as they are certified and qualified to be practicing medicine.

Look at what the bill states on pages 881-882:

"In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: . . . Training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds."

So this means that medical universities are only able to receive grants toward their programs if they have met their quota of minority enrollment. Hmmmmm....so potentially unqualified students could slip through the university's cracks and graduate, not because they have excellent grades or knowledge, but simply because they are a minority group. Then these "doctors" are "certified" to practice on Americans.

This is what we deem superior health care? Where's our common sense, America?

Wow. I just came across your blog. I was really admiring your perspective on life, marriage and Christianity until I read this post. Re-read the section you posted. It says underrepresented minority groups OR disadvantaged backgrounds (i.e. it includes entities that help the poor/ underserved, which includes white americans). As Christians, aren't we suppose to lend a hand to the disadvantaged, especially if God has blessed us so amazingly with health and happiness? It IS in fact what Jesus would do. Also, this a reward for entities, not medical students, that provide community service for the disadvantaged. Be a blessing to others, it's what Christianity is all about!

Jessica,

I first want to say that I appreciate your comment and you do have a good point. As Christians, sometimes we are the first ones to snub our nose at those who are disadvantaged, when we should really be the first ones to offer help.

The point I was trying to make was that this health care bill gives a PREFERENCE to those who are of a different skin color. For instance, even if a White male had more qualifications than a Hispanic male, the Hispanic male would be more likely to be chosen above the White male, simply because of his cultural background.

Anyway, if you disagree with me, that's ok - It is what being an American is all about and I hope you will continue to read my blog! :)

I will continue to read!

However, I am not sure I got all that -- at least from that particular sentence of the bill. It seems that an entity providing training to a poor, white person would also be given a preference over one training a middle class or wealthy minority. Although, I agree that entities that aim to soley assist wealthy, white americans may need to fear loosing their grant money (but is that a bad thing?). I am just happy to know that we live in a country that encourages opportunity and justice for all.

I appreciate your receptiveness to my comment and your response. There is always growth and understanding to be gained from exchanging ideas, especially amongst young christians. :) Happy blogging!

Jessica
